Base Camp - Chamonix, France
Summer activities
Unlike many ski resorts, Chamonix remains popular throughout the summer.
- Climbers and walkers flock here in their thousands, enjoying the spectacular paths and terrain up and down the valley. There are treks for all levels of fitness and ability. Some of the best paths start from the cente of town.
But Chamonix offers a huge range of other activities during the summer:
- golf: play the 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones - situated at Les Praz a 10 minute drive up the valley. Chamonix is also an ideal base for a golf trip taking in several of the nearby mountain courses - including Crans-Montana, Evian, Les Gets, Annecy, Flaine, Verbier and Mégève - all of which are within 90 minutes' drive.
- cycling and mountain biking: ride the roads in Lance Armstrong's tyre tracks, or the paths around the valley. Daredevils can catch a cable car to the top and zoom back down on two wheels...
- rafting and hydrospeeding: take to the water and enjoy the thrill of riding the rapids
- canyoning: jump, swim and abseil your way down mountain river canyons on the Swiss border
- ice climbing: get right up close to the Mer de Glace glacier
- helicopter or balloon trips: get a bird's eye view of the Mont Blanc massif
- tennis/squash: make use of all the courts at the Centre Sportif
- swimming: indoor/outdoor pools also at the Centre Sportif
- parapente: jump off a mountain and 'fly' back down to the valley floor...
- gym/sauna: look after the body beautiful...
Most of these activities are easy to organise from the town centre. If you would like further assistance we can put you in touch with local tour operators. Contact us for more information.
- Wine & gastronomy: It might sound strange, but winetasting is one of Chamonix's best-kept secrets. The town's location is equidistant between three wonderful wine-producing regions in three different countries - Italy's Piedmont, Switzerland's Valais and France's Savoie, all within a 90 minute drive from Chamonix.
Or you can just go exploring - whether by car, bike or on foot you will be constantly bowled over by scenery around you.
